The local county homeschool community had hosted a Geography Bee competition for the previous years and Martin had managed to get into the finals the previous year.

Back in regular school again, he convincingly won the school competition, after which they have to take an online test in order to qualify for the State competition. He succeeded in being one of the 100 students chosen from throughout the state of Illinois to compete and acquitted himself well. While he didn't win at that level, he learned some great skills and the experience of a much higher level of competition.
